To Become, First Cease To Be (say what?)

Once upon a time there was a lake and the shore.  The shore asked the lake, “How do I live an enlightened life? The lake replied, “Be the rock and cease to be the shore!” And so it was. The shore disappeared and in its place appears thousands of rocks and sands.

The shore turned around and touched the winds. The winds asked the rocks, “How do I live an enlightened life?” The rocks replied, “Be the air and cease to be the wind!” And so it was. The winds disappeared and in its place appears a sky vast and deep.

The sky turned around and saw the sun who asked him, “My dear sky, how do I live an enlightened life?” The air replied, “Be the light and cease to be the sun!” And so it was. The sun disappeared and in its place burned fire as the belly of a star.

The light turned to know the universe, and the universe asked, “How, dear light, do I live an  enlightened life? The light replied, “Be all, and cease to be the universe. For all are part of you, and you are within all.”

And so it shall be in saecula sarculorum.
